Werna Deile, 88, of Wishek, ND, died Friday, July 7, 2023 while traveling with her son on the eastern North Dakota Prairie at Large. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 11, 2023 at 11:00 AM at St. Luke Lutheran Church, Wishek. Visitation will be held on Monday, July 10, 2023 from 5-7 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at Feist Funeral Home, Wishek. Burial will be held at St. James Cemetery, rural Wishek. Werna was born November 3, 1934 to Jacob and Eva (Wolf) Wiest on the rural McIntosh County farm. Werna completed a 8th grade education after which she was actively involved on the Jacob and Eva Wiest Farm.

On a frigid January 17, 1954 at the tender age of 19, she warmed-up to and married Allen Deile of rural Wishek and continued to farm on his Mother and Fathers farmstead 9 miles SW of Wishek, ND.  In 1960 they bought an existing Dairy farm 2 ½ miles SW of Wishek. There she farmed with Allen and raised their family of 5 children until 1987. She moved into the Wishek City limits and continued to work in food service initially, then the Wishek Community Hospital in the linen department until her full retirement around 2010. Werna's career had spanned from age 14 and beyond as a dairy farm wife that milked cows, raised egg producing and butcher chickens, pail calves, the occasional hogs and a few sheep. She cooked, baked, canned, gardened, and sewed. In the 70's she studied and learned Reflexology and massage…just as a fill-in to keep busy.

Werna was a lifetime resident who was actively involved in her church community, a Sunday school teacher and served alongside Allen on the Tri-County Fair board. She and Allen got swept up in a 1970's Square Dancing phenomenon as well, enjoying the companionship and fun of dance and mingling with neighbors and regional new friends along the way.

She had a deep appreciation and skill for the lifestyle they lived. There was the tradition of seasonal family gatherings to butcher, package and froze chickens in the spring, beef in the summer and hogs in the fall. Werna supported Allen in restoring an award winning authentic Covered Wagon that they initially used in Wishek's 75th Jubilee Wagon Train/Trail Ride in 1973, later on the National 1776-1976 Bi-Centennial Wagon Train and again on Wishek's 100th Centennial Wagon Train as Wagon Master in 1998. It was her hope to attend the 125th Quasquicentennial and she succeeded by mere days beyond.

Werna was preceded in death by 6 siblings: Herman, Julias, Ervan, Herbert, Hertha, infant sister, and her parents. Her husband Allen and her son Darold.

She is survived by her daughter's Gloria Engel and Cheri (Brad) Brause, Son's Glen (Carrie) Deile and David. 11 Grandchildren and 11 Great Grandchildren.
