Walter R. Meidinger, 85, of Wishek, ND passed away from cancer on Friday, January 1, 2021 at his home. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at 11:00 AM at St. Luke Lutheran Church, Wishek. Visitation will be held on Monday, January 4, 2021 from 3-7 PM at Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Wishek. Burial will be held at 1:30 PM at St. Andrew's Lutheran Cemetery, Zeeland, ND. Walter Raymond Meidinger was born October 21, 1935 on the family farm west of Wishek to Ferdinand and Dorothy (Rudolf) Meidinger. He attended country school in the Wishek area up until the 8th grade. He continued his education at Wishek High School, graduating in 1953. Walter went on to teach at a country school in the Zeeland area. During his time teaching he met the love of his life Marveline Wolff. They united in marriage on May 12, 1957 at St. Andrew's Lutheran Church, Zeeland. After Walter and Marveline were married they farmed on the family farm west of Wishek, where they raised their four children. In 1994 they retired and moved to Wishek and Walter went to work for Wishek Steel until retiring in 2010.

Walter was a McIntosh County Commissioner from 1972 - 1982. He was also a member of many organizations around Wishek including the Jaycees, Lions Club and Wishek Antique Car Club. He served as the Wrangler 4-H Horse Club leader and the St. Luke Sunday School Superintendent. He also served on the Wishek Hospital Board, Wishek Development Corporation and the Tri-County Fair Board. One of his most enjoyable roles was being the Trail Boss for the Wishek Centennial Wagon Train.

Walter is survived by his wife of 63 years, Marveline, Wishek; children, Randall (Sandra) Meidinger, Linton, Clyde R. (Anna) Meidinger, Wishek, Marilyn Vetter, Wilton and Rhonda Meidinger, Stayton, OR; grandchildren, Nathan (Meghan) Meidinger, Nolan Meidinger and Haley Winterberg; great-grandchildren, Analiese, Isabel and Edith Meidinger; Brothers, Roy Meidinger, Wishek, William Meidinger, Ashley and Joe Meidinger, Wishek; sister, Wilma Speidel, Bismarck.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Richard (Pauline), Oscar (Amanda), Art (Gladys) and Tom (Millie) Meidinger and three infant brothers, sisters, Clara (Leo) Miller, Ruth (Alvin) Meidinger and Rose (Ephraim) Heyne and sisters-in-law Melvina, Luella and Leona Meidinger and brother-in-law, Wilbert Speidel.
