Virgil was born November 16, 1929 to Benjamin and Cary (Esch) Heiden north of Tappen, ND. His early childhood was spent in the town of Tappen, ND where he attended school and later moving out to the farm northwest of Tappen, ND. Virgil married Viola Iszler November 16, 1950 at St. John's Lutheran Church at Tappen, ND. They moved to Virgil's parent's farm for three years. Virgil and Viola then purchased the Paulick farm and farmed there until 1964. They sold this farm and then purchased the home place, farming and raising cattle until the year 2000 when they moved into Dawson, ND for their retirement. He was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church at Tappen, active church officer, Sunday school teacher, township clerk for 40 years and vice president of the snowmobile club. Their son Marvin died in an auto accident when he was 21 years old. Their adopted granddaughter Savannah Roder, a special blessing, spent a lot of her growing up with Virgil and Viola. Virgil always put God first in his life so problems were minor.
