Obituary

Vernon "Vern" Presler, 82, of Kulm, ND went to be with his Heavenly Father on Thursday, January 9, 2020 at his home. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 17, 2020 at 10:30 AM at the Assembly of God Church, Kulm, ND. Burial will be held in the spring at the Assembly of God Cemetery, Kulm, ND. Visitation will be held Thursday, January 16, 2020 from 5-8 PM at Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Kulm, ND.

Vern was born July 10, 1937, the son of Henry and Ardina (Radach) Presler in Cashmere, WA. He was the 1st of six children. They moved to North Dakota when he was very young and lived in the Gackle-Alfred area. He attended country school through the 8th grade. When Vern was 15 he moved to Fargo, ND and started working in a grocery store as a bag boy. He worked in the grocery business for many years. On August 23, 1959 he married Janet Lehfeldt and they had two children, Cindy (Presler) Thompson and Donald Presler.

Vern moved to Washington State and owned a service station, worked in grocery stores and saw mills. In 1977 he and his son Donald moved to Kulm and was in the plumbing and excavating business with his brother Allen Presler. He met Joan Carlson in Kulm and they were married April 8, 1978. Vern and Joan took over the Kulm Café in early 1979, they also operated cafés in Rose Hill, KS, Plain, WA and Dryden, WA. In November 1990 they moved back to Kulm and owned and operated  the Kulm Café until 1998. Vern was also a caretaker of the Kulm Golf Course and had a small hobby farm south of Kulm.

Vern loved trapping and fishing. One year he and his cousin Leroy Presler went through the ice and Vern was up to his neck in freezing water.

Vern loved all of his family and friends. He greeted every one with smiles and hugs. When he had the café his wife told him to be careful about hugging the waitresses because of sexual harassment. He said they wouldn't do that and they didn't.

Vern is survived by his loving wife, Joan Presler, Kulm, ND; children, Cindy (Bill) Thompson, Naples, ID , Donald (Kristen) Presler, Fairbanks, AK; step-son, Cory (Michelle) Morrow, Norcross, MN; five grandchildren, Peyton Presler, Mallory Presler, Austin Morrow, Boone Morrow and Brody Morrow; siblings, Allen (Darlene) Presler, Edgeley, ND, Wallace (Marcella) Presler, Moses Lake, WA, Lintena Fauth, Yakima, WA and Elmer (Pat) Presler, Kulm, ND.

Vern was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Ardina Presler, sister Ilene Anderson and two brother-in-law's Maynard Anderson and Timothy Fauth
