Verna Bader, 97, of Wishek, ND, passed away July 1, 2023 at the Gackle Care Center. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 7, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Lehr United Methodist Church, Lehr, ND. Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 6, 2023 from 6:00–8:00 PM at Feist Funeral Home, Wishek. Burial will be held at the Wishek City Cemetery. A recording of Verna's funeral service will be available on the funeral home website.
Verna was born August 11, 1925, to Edmund and Lydia (Heupel) Ulmer on a farm southeast of Wishek. She attended country school in the area until the eighth grade. Verna married Raymond Bader on November 18, 1945, at the Ulmer Family Farm. Together they lived on a farm southwest of Wishek until moving to Ashley in 1964. In 1970 they returned to Wishek. Raymond passed away in 2004 and Verna continued to live in Wishek until moving to the Gackle Care Center in March of 2020.
Verna enjoyed doing ceramics, making her famous egg noodles, cooking, baking and gardening. She was well known for selling produce out of her home for the Hutterite Colonies. She also wrote correspondence for the Wishek Star for many years. She was a member of the ceramics club years ago and the Zion United Methodist Church in Wishek.
Verna is survived by her daughters, Kathy Jacobson (Rick Schlecht), Kulm and Marlys (Donald) Wolf, Bismarck; grandchildren, Jeffrey (Jody) Lautt, Jarold (Lisa) Lautt, Kari (Bill) Buchholz, Jason (Kali) Lautt, Kimberly (Cory) Schlecht, Ryan (Jodi) Wolf and Lori (J.R.) Carter; 24 great-grandchildren; foster sons, Howard Wetzel and Harvey Wetzel; sisters Luella Ackerman, Wishek and DeNora Hoff, Bismarck; sisters-in-law, Delores Ulmer, Marline Brintnall, Norma Ulmer and Mabel Baumgartner.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Bader, sons-in-law, Arnold Lautt and Russell Jacobson; great-grandsons, Jade Lautt and Michael Peterson; parents, Edmund and Lydia Ulmer; sister, Ellen Moon; brothers, Reudow, Lloyd, Edgar, Elmo, Gordie and infant Robert Ulmer; sister-in-law, Mercedes Ulmer; brothers-in-law, Art Hoff, Vance Moon and Albert Ackerman.
