Obituary

Steve Maier, 64, of Bismarck, formerly of Wishek, ND, passed away October 20, 2022. Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 29, 2022 at 2:00 PM at St. Luke Lutheran Church, Wishek. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will be held at St. Luke Cemetery, Wishek.

Steve was born September 4, 1958, to Edwin and Agnes (Oberlander) Maier in Bismarck, ND. Steve was the youngest of four children. Steve was raised on the family farm between Wishek and Lehr. He attended and graduated from Lehr High School in 1977. Steve met the love of his life, Rose (Fleming) when he asked her to dance at a mutual friend's wedding reception. They married in the spring of 1981 and had three children, Joshua, Jenifer, and Matthew.

Steve loved to work with cattle. Throughout his life he was employed at several livestock yards across South Central North Dakota and Herried, SD. Most recently he could be found sipping coffee with the morning crew at Kist in Mandan.

After the children graduated from Wishek High School Steve and Rose moved to Bismarck in 2006. Although you can take the man off the farm, you cannot take the farm out of the man. He continued to travel back and forth between Bismarck and Wishek to care for his critters and his garden. Steve could always be counted on for a helping hand, whether it be sweeping up after an event or pushing the residents to church at the long-term care facilities where Rose worked. He could not resist faking the lyrics and busting out in dance when a country tune came on. Steve's favorite role in life was that of "Papa" to his 11 grandchildren. They truly were his pride and joy.

Steve is survived by his wife, Rose Maier (Fleming); two sons, Joshua and Matthew (Janel); daughter, Jenifer (Brian) Murray; five grandsons and five granddaughters; brother, Don (Heather) Maier; sister, Linda Held; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Agnes (Oberlander); brother, Joseph Maier; and grandson, Joseph Moch.
