Ruth Martha
Wolf
Mar 19, 1928 — Sep 20, 2017
Ruth Schwartz, daughter of Gust and Martha (Streyle) Schwartz was born March 19, 1928. She grew up in Napoleon, ND where she attended and graduated from Napoleon High School. She then went on to pursue a teaching degree from Ellendale College and Valley City Teachers College. She spent the next 4 years teaching at a country school in the Sealy Township of Kintyre, ND. On October 6, 1947, Ruth married the love of her life, William ("Willie") Wolf at the Peace Lutheran Church in Napoleon. The couple resided on Willie's parents' farm for 5 years until they purchased the August Streyle farm 10 miles northwest of Napoleon. It is here where they would spend many years building a life together as a family and putting much dedication, pride, and love into their homestead. On November 20, 1951, their marriage was blessed with a beautiful daughter, Delilah. A nephew, Gary Mertz, also came to live with them in 1956, and stayed until he graduated from high school. During this time, they continued to devote their lives to farming until retiring in 1993, at which they moved to Napoleon. Willie and Ruth were blessed to have been able to celebrate their 50 th wedding anniversary together with family in October of 1997; a true testament of their love and devotion to each other. A few months after their celebration, Willie passed away on Feb 3, 1998. Ruth, a remarkable, strong, and resilient woman, carried on and continued to live at home until her passing. She enjoyed many hobbies, which included playing bingo, playing cards with friends, gardening, cooking, baking, caring for family pets, and attending all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren's important milestones. She was a devoted and caring mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She carried a deep love for her daughter, Delilah, and grandchildren, Troy, Stacy, and Jessica. She had an undeniable magical bond that she shared with all of her great grandchildren. Her eyes sparkled and face lit up over each of them. She beamed with pride and adoration for all of them and was without a doubt, their biggest fan. She loved to attend all of their sporting and school events. She spent many evenings traveling to attend wrestling matches, football, basketball, and volleyball games. She became a sports enthusiast and found great joy in watching them all play. Grandma Ruth also loved to nourish her family and her recipes have yet to be matched, especially her cucumber salad, banana bread, and bread dressing, some of her grandchildren's favorites. She was the pillar of strength and the matriarch of the family. As we say goodbye to this beloved woman, she leaves a part of her spirit in each of us. Her strong will and determination for her life and compassion and love for her family is the legacy she leaves behind. She will continue to be honored by those whom loved her in a way that would make her proud. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
