Obituary

The funeral for Ruth Goebel, 85, Wishek, ND will be Wednesday, February 9, 2011 at 11:00 AM at the First Baptist Church at Wishek, ND. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church. Burial will be at the Lehr City Cemetery, Lehr, ND.

Ruth (Becker) Goebel, daughter of William and Emila (Retzlaff) Becker, was born February 5, 1925 in Cokato Township, Logan County and attended school in Napoleon.
She married Leon Goebel on February 11, 1944 in Napoleon. Following their marriage they lived on the Goebel family farm northwest of Lehr. In 1958 the family moved to Lehr, but continued their farming operation. In 1974 they returned to the area of the original family farm until fire destroyed their home in 1978. The family then built a home in Wishek in 1979.
In 1956 she proclaimed her personal profession of faith at the Ebenezer Baptist Church and was a member there until its closing in December, 2010.
Found in her personal papers was a poem (author unknown) reflecting the way she lived her life…
I shall pass through this world but once.
Any good that I can do or any kindness that I can show another human being,
Let me do it now and not defer it for I shall not pass this way again.

She leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness. Ruth blessed this world with her gentle smile and her compassionate heart. She greatly cherished the time spent with her family.

Ruth Goebel took the Lord's hand and followed him home on February 3, 2011. She was surrounded by her family at the time of her passing.

She is survived by her husband Leon, her son, Clark Gaebel (Kay) of Fargo, ND, daughter Claudia Van Zetten (Larry) of Custer, SD, and son Cameron (Sondra) of Mandan, ND. She was blessed with six grandchildren (Collin, Lori, Bill, Canyon, Willow and Ryker), two step-grandchildren, Vicky and Barry, two great-grandchildren (Madison and Torri). She is also survived by loving brothers and sisters Leona, Peona, Art (Betty), Wally (Lenore), Roger (Betty) and beloved nephews and nieces.
Her parents and five brothers, Roland, Willie, Walter, John and Gilbert preceded her in death.
She was loved beyond expression and will be missed beyond words. Our family chain is broken and nothing seems the same, but as God calls us one by one, the chain will link again.
