The funeral for Rosa Burgad, Napoleon, ND will be Saturday, July 10, 2010 at 10:30 AM at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, Napoleon, ND. Visitation will be Friday from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Napoleon, ND. Burial will be at St. Philip Neri Catholic Cemetery, Napoleon, ND.


Rosa M. Draeger, daughter of August William and Rosa (Schmidt) Draeger was born February 2, 1912 on the Draeger family farm seven miles southeast of Napoleon, ND. Rosa received her elementary education in rural Logan County schools, graduating from eighth grade in 1927. She then attended Napoleon High School which she graduated from in 1931. Rosa was active in school plays and operettas. She also played on the girls basketball team. Rosa went on to attend Valley City Normal School where she received her teaching certificate. Rosa returned to Logan County and taught at the Laughlin School, the Red Lake District # 2 School and the Starkey School #1 for several years. Rosa was married to John Burgad on June 6, 1935 at Napoleon, ND. Following their marriage, they lived on the Peters farm near Peters Siding in rural Logan County for three years. In 1940, they purchased a farm two miles south of Burnstad, ND. They farmed and ranched there until they retired in 1977. In May of 1977, they moved into Napoleon, ND where she has lived since that time. John passed away March 12, 1987. Rosa is a member of St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, St. Philip Neri Christian Mothers, Logan County Extension Homemakers and the Napoleon Golden Age. Music has always been a love of Rosa's and since her youth she has been active with musical activities. She took lessons as a youngster and with her sister Josephine, she sang for many community functions. Rosa later served her church as organist for several years at St. Clare's Catholic Church at Burnstad and sang in the church choir at Burnstad and Napoleon for many years.


Rosa died Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at the Napoleon Care Center, Napoleon, ND. She was 98 years old.

Rosa is survived by two sons, Jaford (Rosemary) Burgad, Napoleon, ND; Rodney (Linda) Burgad, Wishek, ND; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, John, one daughter, Sharon, her parents, two sisters, Josephine "Dodie" Cartledge and Marie Flemmer, two brothers, Peter and William Draeger.
