The funeral for Rodney A. Burgad, Wishek, ND will be Saturday, February 22, 2014 at 2:30 PM at St. Luke Lutheran Church at Wishek, ND. Visitation will be Friday from 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Wishek, ND. Burial will be at St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery, Wishek, ND.


Rodney A. Burgad, son of John S. and Rosa (Draeger) Burgad was born May 15, 1948. Rodney received his elementary education in rural Logan County Schools. He then attended Wishek High School, which he graduated from in 1966. Rod played basketball and football, was active in FFA and numerous other school activities. He went on to attend Valley City State University where he met his wife of 43 years, Linda Stoutland. He received his teaching degree from VCSU in 1971.

Rod married Linda at a ceremony in Fargo, ND on July 25, 1970. Following their marriage they lived in Valley City for four years while Rod taught at St. Kate's. In 1973 they moved to Napoleon, ND where Rod taught at Napoleon High School and coached football. In 1975 the Napoleon Imperials under the helm of head coach Burgad took the state championship. In 1977 Rodney retired from teaching. Rod and Linda moved to Rodney's family farm in Logan County where he farmed and ranched. In 1987 they moved to Wishek, ND where he lived until his passing.
Rod was always full of life and laughter. He was happiest when he was surrounded by friends and family. He loved hunting, camping and homemade ice cream. Rodney reffed basketball and football for 30 years. He served on the Wishek Public School Board, his church council, the Tri-County Fair Board and many other community groups throughout the years. At the time of his passing he was a McIntosh County Commissioner. He is a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church.


Rod passed away Monday evening, February 17, 2014 at his home. He was 65 years old.

Rod is survived by his wife, Linda; two daughters, Meagan (Jason Gerber), Kristen (Alex) Heidrich; one son, Michael; one grandson, Bodie Heidrich; and his brother, Jaford (Rosemary).
