Obituary

The funeral for Reuben E. Elhard, Kulm, ND will be Friday, June 22, 2018 a 10:30 AM at the Kulm Congregational Church at Kulm, ND.  Burial will be at the Kulm Congregational Cemetery, Kulm, ND.

Reuben E. Elhard was born August 23, 1925 on the family farm near Kulm, ND to Emmanuel & Emelia (Kuhn) Elhard.  He grew up on the family farm and graduated from Kulm High School.  For the next several years he worked on the family farm, went south custom combining and worked in North Dakota putting up telephone lines.  On October 21, 1953 Reuben married Lila M. Nord and they raised their family on the family farm west of Kulm, ND.  Reuben also worked many years on call as a field assistant for LaMoure County Agriculture & Stabilization Service.  He served on many boards including being township assessor.  In retirement Reuben & Lila enjoyed traveling to visit sisters and children in various states, going as far as Maine, Florida, Arizona, Hawaii and Alaska.  They also did Charitable work during the winter months at Wycliffe in Texas and Idyllwild in California.  Reuben was a member of the Kulm Congregational Church his entire life, at which he was a Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School Teacher and then a Deacon.  He became a life member of the Gideons International in 1971, joining in handing out Bibles and speaking at various churches.  Reuben joined the Kulm Ambulance Corps, becoming an EMT and served for 30 years.

Reuben went to his Heavenly Home after passing away early Friday, June 15, 2018 at the Wishek Living Center, Wishek, ND.  He was 92 years old.

Reuben is survived by four children, Paul, Janice, James (Wanda) and Diane (Dale); five grandsons, Matthew, Daniel, Jacob, Michael and Christian; five step grandchildren, Christa, Aryn, Thomas, Stephan, Justin; numerous nieces and nephews.  Reuben was preceded in death by his wife, Lila, parents, one brother as a young man, his other brother and spouse.  Sign online guest book and share memories at www.dahlstromfuneralservice.com .  Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Kulm, ND entrusted with arrangements.
