Raymond Krueger, 94 of Kulm, ND, died Saturday January 6, 2024 under Comfort Care Services at the Wishek Hospital. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2024 at 1:00 PM at Martin Luther Lutheran Church, Fredonia, ND. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 12, 2024 from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at Feist Funeral Home, Kulm. There will be no prayer service. Burial will be held at Martin Luther Lutheran Cemetery, Fredonia.

Raymond, son of Edward and Katherina (Wolf) Krueger, was born May 4, 1929 on the family farm 4 miles west of Fredonia, ND.  He was Baptized at the Martin Luther Lutheran Church, Fredonia, ND.  Raymond attended grades 1 through 8 at Lautt #4 country school ¾ miles west of the family farm, graduating in 1942.  He was confirmed at Martin Luther Church at age 14 in 1943. From 1943 – 1948 he worked on the family farm.  In 1948 he moved to Seattle, Washington for 2 years, working for the Seattle Water Dept., boarding at the home of Art Sukut.  In November 1950 he came back from Seattle and worked for Albert Lautt and Leo Krueger.  Around this time Ray, who loved to dance, ran into Bernitta Haag at a dance in Lehr.  Bernitta also loved to dance and the two started to date after that night.

Ray was drafted by the Army in June 1951 and attended basic training at Ft Sill, OK for 16 weeks.  He came home on furlough for a week and  then traveled to Washington to board a ship,  reaching Japan on Dec. 7, 1951.  He then continued on to Korea.  He went through processing and then on to the frontline just before Christmas.  He served 11 months in the 955 Field Artillery Battalion.  It was a separate unit, not part of a Division. The unit had the nickname of Bastard because they were a unit that roamed. He returned home just before Christmas 1952 with the final rank of Staff Sargent.

In the spring of 1953 Ray worked on the family farm but stayed at his parents home in Fredonia as his brother Herman and his wife Mabel were now living on the farm.  On September 27, 1953 Raymond married Bernitta Haag at the Martin Luther Church in Fredonia.  They stayed with Ray's parents for a month or so and then moved out to the family farm after his brother Herman had moved.  They had three children, Loren Ray Krueger (Roxanne Hochhalter) Fredonia ND;  Penny Jans McClean (Jason McClean) Kulm, ND and Gregory Ed Krueger (Michelle Vander Wolde) Harrisburg SD.  Raymond served on the Country School Board (Clerk), was a member of the American Legion, served on the Martin Luther Church Council for 16 years (on and off), the election board and sang on the church choir for 60 years.

In 1977 their oldest son Loren (Roxanne) Krueger joined the farming team.  In the fall of 1994 Raymond and Bernitta moved to Kulm, but still continued to help at the farm.  Their Grandson Landon (Shannon) Krueger are the 4th Generation on the Krueger farm.

Raymond is survived by: 3 children, Loren, Penny & Gregory, 7 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by: his wife Bernitta, his parents, 3 sisters, Emma Geiszler, Anna Sukut and Ida Schultz, 2 brothers Roland and Herman Krueger and 1 son in law Paul Jans.
