The funeral for Raymond Kauk, Napoleon, ND will be Friday, July 9, 2010 at 10:00 AM at the Trinity Lutheran Church at Napoleon, ND. Visitation will be Thursday from 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Napoleon, ND. Burial will be at the Mandan Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, ND.


Raymond son of Peter and Margarthea (Schlichenmayer) Kauk was born January 28, 1926 at Artis, SD. He was raised in rural Lehr, ND on the family farm. Raymond attended a small country school thru the eighth grade. Raymond was drafted into the Army on April 7, 1944. He was hit by machine gun fire and captured by the Germans at the Battle of the Bulge on January 15, 1945. Raymond was a prisoner of war for three months at a German prison camp. He was discharged from the Army, November 2, 1945. Raymond married Hilma Denning from Lehr, ND on March 16, 1948. From this marriage two sons were born, LeRoy and O'Neil. They farmed north of Napoleon for 31 years, moving into Napoleon in 1980. Raymond loved fishing, playing cards, gardening and teasing grandchildren and nieces and nephews.


Raymond died Sunday, July 4, 2010 at Hi Acres Manor Nursing Home at Jamestown, ND. He was 84 years old.

Raymond is survived by his wife of 62 years, Hilma, Napoleon, ND; his sons, LeRoy (Diane) Kauk, Vancouver, WA; O'Neil ( Peggy) Kauk, Baldwin, ND; four grandchildren, Kim Howard, Bismarck, ND; Stephanie Mirkes, Beaverton, OR; Kory Kauk, Bismarck, ND; Michelle Kauk, Vancouver, WA; three great-grandchildren; three brothers, Adolph (Bernice) Kauk, Spearfish, SD; Eddie (Verna) Kauk, Bismarck, ND; Maynard (Yvonne) Kauk, Minneapolis, MN; one sister, Anna Grignon, Minneapolis, MN.
