The funeral for Peter J. Horner, Napoleon, ND will be held Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, Napoleon, ND at 10:30 AM. Visitation will be held Monday, December 5, 2016 from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Dahlstrom Funeral Home and from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church in Napoleon, ND. Burial will be at St. Philip Neri Catholic Cemetery, Napoleon, ND.

Peter J. Horner was born on August 20, 1923 to Olga and John Horner at the family farm west of Burnstad, ND. Pete was raised in a family with a very strong faith in God. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Clares Catholic Church in Burnstad. He was a hard working farm boy, but education was important to his family. He graduated from Burnstad High School in the class of 1942. After high school graduation, Pete taught at Starky Township School district for one and a half years. He then joined his dad working on the family farm. He offered the neighboring farm girl named Rose Piatz a ride to her farm in 1948. Pete had found his true love, and they were married at St. Anthony Catholic Church, south of Napoleon in 1950. They built a new farmstead one mile west of Burnstad in 1951. Pete was first and foremost a devoted husband to his dear Rose, and a loving father to their children. They welcomed to their family eleven children, Darlene, Dick, Donna, Gerald, Tim, Robert, Marilyn, Peter, Jack, Joyce, and Keith. He kept his seven sons busy on the farm milking cows, hauling bales, and raising Duroc hogs. Pete loved his cattle and had a name for every cow. He loved good food and was blessed with the wonderful cooking and baking Rose so lovingly provided. He never went hungry as his four daughters learned to cook the secrets of their mother's recipes.  Pete was committed to his community and church. He served on many community boards including Red Lake Township, Farmers Union, Lion's Club, Napoleon Wildlife, Golden Age, and Napoleon Care Center. His faith brought him to serve at St. Clares as a trustee, St. Philip Neri as a board member, and as secretary of Knights of Columbus. He served as Grand Knight and earned a lifetime membership with the Knights of Columbus. He was the first male CCD teacher at St. Clares Church where he served for nineteen years. In 1986, Pete and Rose moved to Napoleon. For the next ten years he helped his son Jack, who took over the family farm. Pete also had a patch of land in his backyard where he tended a wonderful garden. He enjoyed watching the plants grow and rejoiced with the harvest of his labor- especially the onions and cucumbers that were made into great pickles. Pete and Rose's retirement years were very busy with traveling, family events, following grandchildren's activities, playing cards, and fishing. Pete had a memory like no other. He remembered many of the smallest details in the events of his lifetime of ninety three years. He never forgot a birthday or occasion. His handwritten cards are a true treasure to his family and will be greatly missed.

Peter died Saturday, December 3, 2016 at CHI St. Alexius Medical Center, Bismarck, ND. He was 93 years old.

Pete will be dearly missed by his bride Rose, his children, Dick (Jane), Donna (Rocky Krom), Gerald (Jane), Tim (Gail), Robert (Gwen), Peter (Beverly), Jack (Becky), Joyce (Terry Kuch), Keith (Heidi), and son-in-law Michael McClure. He will be missed by 27 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren, his brothers Tony (JoAnne), Oscar, Jerry (Dottie), his sister Betty Becker and sisters-in-law, Julia, Rosemary and Ve. Along with many nieces and nephews.

Pete is preceded in death by his parents, his dear daughters Marilyn Rose and Darlene McClure, his siblings John, Rosemary, Pius, and Allen.

We will greatly miss this wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Until will meet again. We love you.
