Paul Rudolf son of August L. and Maria (Meidinger) Rudolf was born July 14, 1922 and raised on a farm 17 miles southwest of Wishek, North Dakota in the early 1920's through the 30's. After completing school through the grades, Paul worked on the family farm until his early twenties. During World War II, at the age of 22, Paul was drafted into the armed services for the overseas war effort. Early in 1945 Paul sailed with the U.S. Navy as a Seaman 1st Class on the U.S.S. Harwood, a Destroyer class war ship. While at sea with the Pacific Fleet, his ship patrolled the waters off of China, Korea, and Japan. He served on the U.S.S Harwood for two years. Prior to shipping out for the war, Paul married Estella Krein in San Diego, CA. After the war Paul was Honorably Discharged from the Navy and he and Estella returned to North Dakota. They lived on the farm and worked the land until 1954. From that time forward Paul and Estella lived in Wishek, ND. Paul continued to farm while commuting back and forth to Wishek where he and Estella raised four children. In addition to farming he delivered mail for the U. S. Postal Service while driving one of the longest rural mail routes in the county out of Wishek and Lehr ND. During this time Paul was a active member at St. Luke Lutheran Church and the Fred Kelly American Legion Post. He held various Legion post officer positions, to include playing the trumpet in the American Legion Drum and Bugle Corps. Paul was also a member of the Wishek Eagles Club. He enjoyed attending elementary/high school events watching his children play ball, participate in music, band and theater. During the summers and fall he spent a great deal of time out at Green Lake with friends and family. Above all one of Paul's greatest passions was enjoying the great outdoors; fishing and hunting. One of his hobbies included planting various types of wild game food plots on small parcels of land at the farm and setting aside habitat and wetland area for game sustainment.
