Nancy was born to August and Lea (Walth) Brandner on February 25, 1946 at St. Alexius Hospital in Bismarck, North Dakota. She was raised on the family farm southwest of Wishek and received her education at Wishek Public School where she graduated in 1964. Nancy attended Bismarck State College after high school and was trained in secretarial skills.
Nancy returned home to the family farm after college where she lived with her parents, sister Lois, and daughter Kelly. The family moved into Wishek after her father, August, passed away in 1971. Nancy worked at the Wishek Hospital and then with Dr. Boschee at the Wishek Dental Clinic for many years. She was not afraid to work and spent nearly 20 years of Saturdays running the scale at the Wishek Livestock Market. After the retirement of Dr Boschee, Nancy worked at the Wishek Living Center in the dietary department and her last position before her retirement was helping with food preparation at the Wishek Senior Center. Nancy enjoyed living in Wishek where she was close to her friends and able to participate in many activities and social events. Nancy also enjoyed travelling and spent much of her vacation time visiting her daughter and sister and their families. She loved and was very proud of her three granddaughters and attended many of their events while they were growing up. Her personality could be described as feisty at times but she loved to have fun. Nancy moved to the Wishek Living Center in March of 2017 due to health reasons and wanted to remain in Wishek, close to her friends and special coffee group.
Nancy was a lifelong member of St. Luke Lutheran Church in Wishek. She was an excellent cook and her baked rice and never-ending dessert trays were family favorites. She cherished the summer months and worked tirelessly on her yard and flowers. Nancy adopted a beautiful Sheltie as a rescue dog from the Humane Society of Otter Tail County in Fergus Falls, MN and named her Dixie. They quickly became the best of companions and were always there to care for each other during Dixie's 15 years of life.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents August and Lea Brandner and her loyal dog Dixie.
Nancy is survived by her daughter Kelly (Jeff) Hatlewick, Fergus Falls, MN; her three granddaughters Kalea, McKenna and Sierra Hatlewick; one sister, Lois (Rod) Pfeifle, Rapid City, SD; one niece, Adrian (Eddie) Rodriguez; one nephew, Ross (Rachel) Pfeifle; and one great-nephew, Eddie Ross Rodriguez; special cousin, Karen (Sidney) Rubinow, Colorado Springs, CO; along with many other dear cousins and friends.
