The funeral for Myrtle E. Svanes, Kintyre, ND will be Saturday, August 18, 2012 at 2:00 PM at Trinity Lutheran Church, Kintyre, ND. Visitation will be one hour prior the service at the church. Burial will be at the Kintyre Cemetery, Kintyre, ND.
Myrtle Elvira Farness, daughter of John and Helga (Hansen) Farness was born September 1, 1913 at Kintyre, ND. She attended country grade school until 1925 when her mother died. The family then moved to Willmar, MN and the five children were in a children's home for two years until their father married Josie Evenson. Myrtle then attended school at Wilmar graduating from high school in 1931. On October 24, 1931 she married Carl Svanes and moved back to Kintyre. They farmed in the area and later moved to the farm home where she resided until entering the Wishek Nursing Home in June of 2006. She also resided at the Steele Nursing Home until moving to Mandan, ND. Carl passed away February of 1991. Myrtle was devoted to her family and was a helper to her husband, sons and brothers. She loved to travel and made nine trips to Norway and three to Germany. Myrtle was self-taught in rosemaling and her Norwegian artistry graces the homes of family members. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church at Kintyre and taught Sunday school for many years. She was a member of the Ladies Aid and also was organist on occasion.
Myrtle died Monday, August 13, 2012 at Sanford off Collins at Mandan, ND. She was 98 years old.
Myrtle is survived by her two sons, Duane (Shirley) Svanes, Kintyre, ND and Harold (Anita) Svanes, Bismarck, ND; six grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; one sister, Lorraine Hoefs, Willmar, MN; two brothers, Willard (Arlene) Farness, Montrose, CO and Grant Farness, Bothell, WA.
