Myron Mattern, 85, of Bismarck, ND formerly of Strasburg, ND, passed away February 10, 2022 at St. Gabriel's Community, Bismarck. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, February 15 th at 10:00 AM at St. Anne's Catholic Church, 1321 Braman Ave, Bismarck. Visitation will be held Monday, February 14 th from 5:00-7:00 PM with a rosary/vigil service at 7:00 PM at Bismarck Funeral Home, 3723 Lockport St., Bismarck. Burial will be held at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery. A livestream of Myron's funeral service will be available at www.dahlstromfuneralservice.com under his obituary.
Myron Peter Mattern was born October 30, 1936 in Strasburg, ND to Balzer and Cecelia (Kramer) Mattern. He grew up on a farm southwest of Strasburg and attended school in Strasburg, graduating in 1955. He enlisted in the US Air Force in 1955 where served until being honorably discharged in 1958. He then went on to attend auctioneering school in Montana. Myron returned to Strasburg and married Janice Schmaltz on June 10, 1959 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Strasburg. They lived in Strasburg for many years where Myron farmed and worked for the ND DOT, operating the Hague Weigh Station Scale for 29 years retiring in 1998. During retirement Myron and Janice spent many winters in Texas. In August 2013 they moved to Bismarck but Myron still loved to make frequent trips Strasburg to visit family and friends.
Myron enjoyed riding motorcycle, fishing, dancing, going for coffee, spending time with family and loved to travel. Anyone that knew Myron knew he loved to tease.
He was a member of the Strasburg Lions Club, Strasburg Senior Citizens, Social Action Church Group and a charter member of the Beaver Valley Horse Club.
Myron is survived by his wife of 62 years, Janice Mattern, Bismarck; children, Randy Mattern and special friend Linda Wohlk, Washburn and Roxanne (Mark) Gabel, Bismarck; grandchildren, Brandy (Brock) Kiefel, McKinzi (Dan) Wiedrich, Hunter (Adrena) Gabel and Madisen (Scott) Beeler; great-grandchildren, Ayden, Tayven and Ryker Kiefel, Jaxon Bauer, Guthrie, Wesley and Samuel Wiedrich and one on the way; brother Harvey; sisters, Esther, Adeline, Isabel, Roselyn, Marcella, Lucille, Cindy and Delrae; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Balzer and Cecelia Mattern.
