Mike was born on August 14, 1973, in Linton, ND to John and Rose (Schumacher) Hulm. He was raised on a farm north of Hague, ND. Growing up on the farm with his six brothers, he was taught a strong work ethic by milking cows and working in the field. Mike attended grade school at Hague Public School and graduated from Zeeland High School in 1992. Following graduation, he went to work for Dwight Schilling for several years. He then went onto work for Cenex Farmers Union in Wishek, what is now known as DFC. Mike married Charlene Vetter in September of 2001. Together they lived in Wishek for the past 25 years.

Mike was a down to earth man who was always cracking jokes, loved to work and especially loved spending time with his family. One of his biggest passions in life was always having a nice pickup and taking exceptional care of it.
