Mary Weigel, of Napoleon, ND, died just after sunrise Sunday morning, May 15, 2022 at the Napoleon Care Center, Napoleon, ND with family by her side.  She was 101 years old and had just recently celebrated her birthday with family and friends.  Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, May 19, 2022 at 10:30 AM at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, Napoleon.  Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 18, 2022 from 5:00-7:00 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at St. Philip's Church.  Burial will be held at the Catholic Cemetery.  A livestream of Mary's funeral service will be available on the St. Philip Neri Catholic Church Facebook page or St. Philip Neri Napoleon YouTube page

Mary (Bosch) Weigel was born in Emmons County, ND April 23, 1921 to Ignatz and Melonia (Huber) Bosch.  She was baptized, received her first communion and was confirmed at Sacred Heart Church at Rosenthal, ND and attended Wells Public School in Emmons County.

Mary was united in marriage to Aloysius (Al) Weigel on November 8, 1943 at Sacred Heart Church in Rosenthal, east of Linton, ND.  They were married 67 years prior to Al's passing. Mary and Al made their home on the family farm fourteen miles southwest of Napoleon until retirement in 1977, when they moved into Napoleon.  Mary resided there until moving into the Napoleon Assisted Living Center in 2011, after Al's death, and then into the Napoleon Care Center in 2020.

Mary worked for the Youth Administration in the early 1930's, doing seamstress work in Linton before her marriage and then worked on their farm while raising their family.  Mary was very strong in her faith, praying the rosary daily and attending mass as often as she was able.  She was so proud to have had 18 godchildren between Al and her.  She was a member of Christian Mothers.  Mary enjoyed cooking, baking, crocheting, embroidery, sewing, playing cards, bingo, working in her huge garden and sharing the bounties of that work with family and friends.  Her best moments though, came with the grandchildren and niece/nephew and other family visits.  These visits were never long enough and she found so much enjoyment in them.  A quick two-hour visit would almost always last at least three to four hours with meals and snacks provided.

Mary is survived by her eight children who all reside in ND: Alois Weigel, Jr., Elmer (Vi) Weigel, Adeline (Addy) Schmaltz,  Llewellyn/Louie (Jill) Weigel, all of Bismarck, Helen (Frank) Braun, Napoleon, Dennis (Jackie) Weigel, Kintyre, Gary Weigel, Wishek, and Sienna (Kevin) Sailer, Hazen, 16 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, 6 step great grandchildren and 4 step great, great grandchildren, sister Christine Dorscher, Minot, ND, sister-in-law Maggie Fettig, Napoleon, brother-in-law, Math Gross, Napoleon, ND and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Al, her parents and in-laws Michael and Margaret (Wangler) Weigel, sisters Ann Ebach, Helen Wald, Ida Weigel and Pauline Wald, brothers Pete, Wendy and Pius and daughter-in-law JoAnn Weigel.

The family would like to thank the Napoleon Care Center for the excellent care their mother received during her time there.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages memorials be sent to Napoleon Care Center or St. Philip Neri Catholic Church.
