Obituary

The funeral for Mary Junker Brinkman, formerly of Wishek and Steele ND will be Thursday, February 10, 2011 at 1:00 PM at The Trinity Lutheran Church at Steele, ND. Visitation will be Wednesday from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at Dahlstrom Funeral Home at Napoleon, ND. Burial will be at the Napoleon City Cemetery, Napoleon, ND in the Spring.


Mary Abell, daughter of Robert and Alvina (Pudwill) Abell was born June 22, 1910 on the family farm in rural Logan County near Napoleon, ND. She grew up and attended rural school in Hollandsworth Township and graduated from the eighth grade. Mary married Christ Junker on July 20, 1934 at Hardin, Montana. She and Christ worked in the sugar beet fields around Hardin until the end of the beet season. They came back to North Dakota and settled on a farm in Kidder County until 1953. The couple moved to Dawson, ND in 1953 where they owned and operated Junker's Mobil Service and Café. Christ passed away in 1961 and Mary continued to operate the business until 1973 when she sold the business and retired. Mary married Amos Brinkman Sr. of Wishek, ND on October 16, 1980 at Ellendale, ND making their home in Wishek, ND. Amos passed away in June of 2000 and Mary then moved to Steele, ND. In 2008 Mary entered the Golden Manor Care Center at Steele, ND and in March of 2009 she moved to the Mandan Care Center and resided there until her death. Mary was a member of the American Legion for 39 years and a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles for 21 years. Mary was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church at Steele, ND.

Mary died Saturday, February 5, 2011 at the Mandan Care Center off Collins at Mandan, ND. She was 100 years old.

Mary is survived by three daughters, Lorraine (Chester) Giese, Steele, ND; Marilyn Just, Lodi, CA; Sharlene (Alvin) Franz, Gillette, WY; two sons, Eugene (LaVern) Junker, Gillette WY; Larry Junker, Jamestown, ND; 13 grandchildren, 17 great -grandchildren and 10 great great-grandchildren; two brothers, Bert Abell and friend Darlene, Bismarck, ND; Charlie (Lillian) Abell, Linton, ND; one sister, Arlene Tergesen, Bismarck, ND. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, 5 brothers, Robert, Lawrence, Fred, Willie and Alvin, one sister, Emma Tergesen, one infant brother, one infant sister and one infant granddaughter and one son in-law, Raymond Just.
