The funeral service for Margaret Gross, Napoleon, ND will be held Wednesday, December 18, 2019 at 1:30 pm at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, Napoleon, ND.  Visitation will be Tuesday, December 17, 2019 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm with a prayer service at 7:00 pm at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church. Burial will be in the spring at St. Philip Neri Catholic Cemetery, Napoleon, ND. Margaret passed away Thursday, December 12, 2019 at the Napoleon Care Center. She was 91 years old.

Margaret (Schaffer) Gross was born December 13, 1927, to Jacob and Rosalia (Lacher) Schaffer at Shell Butte Township, Logan County, rural Napoleon ND. She was the oldest of three children. Margaret attended Mannheim School #4, country school. She achieved her GED later in life. On February 3, 1947, Margaret married John Gross. Margaret and John helped on the Schaffer farm for two years before renting a farm of their own north of Napoleon. In 1955, they bought a farm south of Tappen, ND, and farmed there until 1989 when they moved to the town of Napoleon. Margaret and John adopted, loved, and raised 5 children. In 1979, their family was named Family of the Year by the Knights of Columbus. Throughout their lifetime together, Margaret and John sang together, traveled the world, played cards, and visited many friends and relatives. They sang with the Young German Singers for over 35 years. In addition to helping on the farm, Margaret sold Avon for over 40 years and provided laundry services at Camp Grassic for 25 years. Margaret loved to play cards, play Bingo, visit the casinos, and most of all attend family gatherings.

Margaret is survived by her husband John of 72 years; five children: Rosalie (John) Long of Gackle ND, Rodney (Virginia) Gross of Jamestown ND, Magdalena Johnson of Fargo ND, Johnny Gross of Jamestown ND, and Bonita Hughes of Aurora CO; 10 Grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and in-laws.

Margaret was preceded in death by her father, mother, sister, brother, a son-in-law, and a daughter-in-law.
