Obituary

The funeral service for Marcia Ann Hollan, Kulm, ND, will be held Friday, January 25, 2019 at 2:00 PM at Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Kulm, ND. Visitation will be held Thursday, January 24, 2019 from 4:00 to 6:30 PM with a prayer service at 6:30 PM at Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Kulm, ND. Burial will be at Kulm Congregational Cemetery.

Marcia Ann Melicher was born to Joseph and Hulda (Lange) Melicher on February 4, 1931 in Kulm, ND. She grew up in the Kulm area and attended the Kulm Public Schools, graduating in 1949. She attended the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, graduating in 1952. After college she taught country school south of Kulm for two years. On August 24, 1952, she married Arthur Hollan, in Kulm, ND. After they were married, they lived in Munich, Germany, for a year and a half while Art served in an Army band. They returned to the family farm and lived there until Art passed away in 1986, at which time Marcia moved into Kulm. Marcia worked as secretary to the principal at Kulm High School from 1970 to 2007, working there for 37 years, during which time she saw three generations of children attend the school. Marcia was an active member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Kulm and served as church treasurer for many years. After St. Paul's closed, she attended Zion Lutheran Church in Edgeley. For many years, she volunteered for Lutheran Braille Workers, doing braille and proofreading braille done by other volunteers. Marcia enjoyed working and being with people. She enjoyed reading, gardening, and going out for coffee with her lady friends. She had a positive and pleasant attitude and was loved by all who knew her.

Marcia died Sunday, January 20, 2019 at Miller Pointe Nursing Home, Mandan, ND, after a short but tough second battle with cancer. She was 87 years old.

Marcia is survived by one son, Mark (Nancy) Hollan, Bismarck, ND; one daughter, Lory (Warren) Carlson, Boise, ID; four grandchildren, Trisha Ruff, Michael Hollan, Tony (Samantha) Martinson, Rudie (Julianna) Martinson; two great-grandchildren, Landen Huravitch and William Martinson; one sister, Joan (Norval) Magnusson, Bellingham, WA. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two sisters, Doris Young and Mary Lou Bloomquist; three brothers, Earl, Lyle, and Reed Melicher, and many friends.
