The memorial service for Mabel Friestad, Napoleon, ND will be Saturday, March 24, 2012 at 3:00 PM at Trinity Lutheran Church, Kintyre, ND. Graveside services will be held at the Tell Cemetery rural Kintyre, ND prior to the service.
Mabel Adeline Feigum was born May 3, 1919 on a farm southwest of Napoleon, ND in Logan County. She was the fifth of eight children born on the family farm to Elias and Christina (Kroeber) Feigum. Her father expected his children to make their own way after 8th grade, so Mabel worked in a restaurant and as a clerk in a store in Napoleon. After leaving home, one of her first jobs was at a dentist's office in Minneapolis, MN where she also was the maid at a fancy house. Mabel later returned to North Dakota and worked at a restaurant in Robinson, ND. Mabel married Juel Friestad September 23, 1940 at Fargo, ND. They lived in Fargo for a short time before returning to the Kintyre area purchasing their farm one mile southeast of Kintyre. They lived there until Juel's death in 1980 and Mabel continued to live, until moving to an apartment in Napoleon in June of 2011 and to the Napoleon Care Center in September of 2011. Her goal after moving was to return to her beloved farm where she loved talking on the phone, baking, and visits from her children, grandchildren and friends. She loved tending her flowers and having her own space. She will always be remembered for her never-ending pot of coffee, her famous donuts and her angel food cakes, both of which were sent on the road many times.
Mabel died Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at the Napoleon Care Center, Napoleon, ND. She was 92 years old.
