Obituary

The funeral for Lottie Retzlaff, 84, of Napoleon will be Saturday, November 5, 2011 at 10:00 AM at the Salem United Methodist Church, Napoleon, ND. Interment will take place at the Napoleon Cemetery, Napoleon, ND. Dahlstom Funeral Home of Napoleon, ND entrusted with arrangements.

Lottie (Baker) Retzlaff was born September 22, 1927, on the family farm southeast of Hazelton, ND the daughter of Bryant and Hazel (Purintun) Baker. Lottie received her elementary education in rural Emmons County Schools, and graduated in 1945, from Napoleon High School, Napoleon, ND. She attended Ellendale Normal College in Ellendale, ND and received her Teaching Certificate. She taught two terms in rural Kintyre schools. On August, 10, 1947 she married Walter Retzlaff in Napoleon, ND. Following their marriage they returned to the Retzlaff family farm where they lived and farmed until 1951. In 1958 they purchased a farm northwest of Napoleon. The couple lived and farmed there until their retirement in 1989 when they moved to Napoleon. Walter passed away in 2003. In 2006 she moved to Bismarck where she lived with her son and wife for a few months then moved to the Waterford Assisted Living, Bismarck, ND. In May of 2008 she moved to the Napoleon Care Center, Napoleon, ND where she resided until her death. Lottie was a member of the Salem United Methodist Church, Napoleon, ND. Lottie had a great love for dogs and horses, in her younger years she loved to ride horse. Lottie was of a quiet nature but was always there for family or friends in need.

Lottie died Thursday, November 3, 2011 at the Napoleon Care Center, Napoleon ND. She was 84 years old.

Lottie is survived by one son, Howard (Linda) Retzlaff, Bismarck, ND; three grandchildren, Michelle (James) Grunefelder, Bismarck, ND; Bryant (Cary) Retzlaff, Bismarck, ND; Kristle (Eric) Meier, Lincoln, ND; eight great grandchildren, Shanae, Kaleene, NiKayla Grunefelder; Zachary, Tawniel Retzlaff; all of Bismarck, ND and Elise, Maveric, and Kali Meier, of Lincoln, ND; four sisters, Lillian Ellingson, Sun City AZ; Florence McClean, Jamestown, ND; Olive Ackerman, Lynchburg, VA; Mabel Noot, Valley City, ND; two brothers, Ray Baker, Jamestown, ND; Grant (Carol) Baker, Lamoure, ND; three sisters in-law, Irene Baker, LaCrosse, WI; Bernice Baker, Jamestown, ND; Janice Baker, Fargo, ND; and many dear family and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, Walter, parents Bryant and Hazel, six brothers, Bruce, Russell, Boyd, Lester, Leslie, and Charles, two sisters, Opal and Fern, and many other dear family and friends.
