Lillian R. Sayler, 94 passed away on November 5, 2022, at the Wishek Living Center surrounded by her family. Lillian was born on May 31, 1928, the 6 th of 17 children of Henry and Magdalena (Meidinger) Schwind at Zeeland, ND. She attended school in rural Zeeland through 8 th grade. On October 5, 1948, Lillian married John J Sayler. They began their married life on a farm 18 miles north of Zeeland milking cows, raising several kinds of animals and growing crops.
Lillian was an excellent cook, seamstress, quilter, and homemaker. She enjoyed playing pinochle and other games. Her claim to fame was being interviewed for the Germans from Russia book "Women Behind the Plow". Her pride and joy were her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
When John passed away in February of 1999, Lillian remained on the farm with her son and wife, Terry, and Georgine Sayler. In 2009 she moved into an apartment in Wishek. She continued to sew, garden a little and cook, sharing meals and treats with her neighbors and friends. Of course, pinochle was a part of these events.
When life became more difficult, Lillian moved into an apartment within the Wishek Living Center and eventually became a resident there.
Lillian is survived by three daughters, Sharron (Ron) Meidinger, Tammie (Daniel) Schumacher and Tracie (David) Zetocha; Brothers, Garold Schwind, Harley (Lola) Schwind and Margetus (Eva) Schwind; Sisters Hildegard Kuehl, LaVerne Walth, Marlus Reese, Beatrice (Floyd) Roehrich and Jeanette Rudolf; Sisters-in-laws Erna Schwind and Erna Tallman; Ten grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Lillian was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son Terry; granddaughter Amanda Drilling; Brothers Eugene, Thomas, Elmer, Arthur, Howard, Waltmer and Melvin; One sister Elsie (Al) Schatz; one sister-in-law, Bertha Schwind; Brothers-in-law Eugene Kuehl, Adam Walth, Tom Reese, and Jerry Rudolf.
