The funeral for Lila M. Elhard, Kulm, ND will be Wednesday, October 10, 2012 a 10:30 AM at the Kulm Congregational Church at Kulm, ND. Visitation will be Tuesday from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Kulm, ND. Burial will be at the Congregational Cemetery, Kulm, ND.
Lila Marion Nord was born November 11, 1921 at Napoleon, ND to Chris and Nellie (Christensen) Nord. She grew up on the family farm and graduated from Napoleon High school. Lila worked at the Logan County Courthouse and also in Fargo in a sewing factory. Lila graduated from Teacher's College in Ellendale, ND with a Lifetime Teaching Certificate. Lila started her teaching career in a one room schoolhouse at Guelph, ND. She then taught at Ambrose, ND and Beulah, ND. She took a year off from teaching and lived with her sister Dena and family in Honolulu, HI while working for Civil Service. Lila returned to teaching at Chester, MT, Westby, MT and Kulm, ND. Lila married Reuben Elhard on October 21, 1953 at Kulm, ND. They were members of the Kulm Congregational Church. They raised their four children on the family farm west of Kulm. After the youngest daughter started school Lila returned to teaching Kindergarten and also did substitute teaching for many years. In retirement, Lila and Reuben enjoyed traveling to visit sisters and children in various states, going as far as Maine, Florida, Arizona, Hawaii and Alaska. They also did charitable work during the winter months at Wycliff in Texas and Idyllwilde in California. Lila loved spending time with her grandchildren and baking kuchen and chocolate pie for them.
Lila went to her Heavenly Home after passing away early Saturday, October 6, 2012 at the Wishek Living Center, Wishek, ND. She was 90 years old.
Lila is survived by her husband, Reuben, Kulm, ND; two sons, Paul Elhard, San Bernardino, CA; James (Wanda) Elhard, Owosso, MI; two daughters, Janice Elhard, Bismarck; Diane (Dale) Johnson, Milnor, ND; four grandsons, Matthew Johnson, Bismarck, ND; Daniel and Jacob Johnson, Milnor, ND; Michael Elhard, San Bernardino, CA; one brother-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews.
