LeRoy Arthur Zimmerman, son of Arthur and Edna (Gums) Zimmerman was born September 1, 1946 at Jamestown, ND. He grew up on the Zimmerman farm and attended country school in Peace Township of Kidder County through 5th grade, when the school disbanded. LeRoy then attended school in Napoleon and graduated from Napoleon High in 1964. He took over the family farm and was a true farmer/rancher, loving life on the land and raising cattle. A great summer day for LeRoy was driving his utility vehicle with his pet companions, first Skipper and then Reiley, checking on the cattle and baling hay in the afternoon. In the winter he loved driving tractor and feeding his cattle. LeRoy was a great steward for his Heavenly Father caring deeply for the land, cattle, farm animals and wildlife. Land homesteaded by his great-grandparents, Jacob and Maria (Lang) Winkler was still in the care of LeRoy and Twyla. LeRoy was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and served on the Trinity and Glueckstal Lutheran Church boards and also as the Peace Township clerk. He was a member of Western Minnesota Steam Threshers Reunion, Rollag, MN through his association with the Arvid and Patty Benson family and loved the old time threshing and tractors. LeRoy's one last wish was to see the mountains and his nephew, Isaac granted him that wish, taking LeRoy on a trip in June 2012 to see Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons in Wyoming. LeRoy was devoted to his family, as the eldest he helped with the care of his parents and was instrumental in providing the support for his siblings to attend college.
LeRoy died Saturday, November 3, 2012 from reoccurrence of kidney cancer, which was first diagnosed in 1999, at his home under the care of Prairie View Hospice, Wishek, ND. He was 66 years old.
LeRoy is survived by his brother, Steve (Kimberly) Zimmerman, Fargo, ND; his sisters, MoDean (David) Dick, Bismarck, ND and Twyla Zimmerman, Tappen, ND; nieces and nephews, Donavon Dick, Bismarck, ND; Deidra Dick, Fargo, ND; Isaac Zimmerman, Minneapolis, MN and Heather Zimmerman, Minneapolis, MN.
