Obituary

The funeral for Leo B. Wald, Napoleon, ND will be Monday, December 23, 2013 at 10:30 AM at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, Napoleon, ND. Visitation will be Sunday from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Napoleon, ND. Burial will be at St. Philip Neri Catholic Cemetery, Napoleon, ND, in the spring.


Leo B. Wald, son of Anton C. and Dorothea (Haegele) Wald was born September 1, 1927 at Napoleon, ND. Leo attended rural school at Glendale Township. Leo served in the US Army. After his military service Leo returned to the Napoleon area where he farmed. Leo was united in marriage to Rose Mary Baumgartner, daughter of Jacob and Elizabeth (Schumacher) Baumgartner on October 14, 1954 at St. Mary's Catholic Church at Hague, ND. They farmed north of Napoleon. Leo and Rose moved into the city of Napoleon in 1998 and he continued to farm with his son Pius. Leo was a member of St. Philip Neri Catholic Church and was also a Knights of Columbus member.

Leo Wald, Napoleon, ND died Thursday, December 19, 2013 at the Napoleon Care Center, Napoleon, ND. He was 86 years old.

Leo is survived by his wife of 59 years Rose Mary Wald, Napoleon, ND; his children and grandchildren, Geraldine Wald, Bismarck, ND; Leanna (Warren) Emmer, Bismarck, ND their children, Anne and Jennifer; Delores (Jeff) Shutter, Green Bay, WI their children, Joshua and Jennifer; Irene (Ted) Matzen, Billings, MT their children, Shelsea and Teddi; Pius (Wanda) Wald, Napoleon, ND their daughter, Teresa; Shirley (Troy) DeWitz, Fargo, ND their children, Kaitlyn and Sean; six great-grandchildren, one brother, Conrad (Pat) Wald, Antigo, WI; four sisters, Barbara Schmaltz, Bismarck, ND; Mary Fettig, Napoleon, ND; Idora (Leo) Schmidt, Hazelton, ND; Cyrella Wangler, Hazelton, ND; and one sister-in-law, Pauline Wald, Napoleon, ND. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Joseph and Louis and one sister, Veronica Henley, one sister-in-law, Johanna Wald and three brothers-in-law, Dennis Henley, Andrew Wangler and Frank Fettig.
