The funeral for Leo Bader, Bismarck, ND and East Lansing, MI, will be Saturday, March 19, 2011 at 11:00 AM at the Baptist Home Chapel at Bismarck, ND. Burial will be at the Wishek City Cemetery, Wishek, ND.


Leo Bader was born in Eureka, SD to Anton and Lydia (Gall) Bader. He met and married Helen Joanne Meissner in Wishek, ND in 1957. Leo worked as a member of the Pipefitter's Union in Fargo, ND before moving his young family to Michigan where he became a member of Pipefitter's Union Local 333 in Lansing, MI until his retirement. Leo was proud of many of the large projects he worked on including the Grand Forks missile sites, the Cook Nuclear Plant in MI, and many buildings on the Michigan State University campus. Leo was an accomplished woodworker, he loved to dance, and he sang in a number of choirs including the German Choir in Beulah, ND, during his second marriage. Leo had a deep regard for nature, enjoyed fishing and hunting, was a member the Elks and Good Sam's Club in ND, and of the Lansing Conservation Club in MI where he shot competition rifle.

Leo passed from this life Wednesday, March 9, 2011 at the Baptist Home at Bismarck, ND. He was 82 years old.

Leo is survived by his children Michael Bader of Lansing, MI; Joy (Charles) Pohl of Leslie, MI; Susan (Thom) Burns of Traverse City, MI; Anthony (Dotty) Bader of Mason, MI; his grand children, Christine and Katlyn Burns, and Cameron Pohl; his sister's, Delores (Ray) Zimmerman, Eva (Mark) Schwind, Alma Werth; his brother, Clifton (Betty) Bader. Leo also leaves his long time companion, Cecilia Black, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends spread near and far. He is greeted after death by his parents, Anton and Lydia Bader, his loving wife, Helen (Meissner), younger sisters, Violet Ketterling and Florence Bader, grandson, Jeremy Ross Bader, brother's-in-law, Walter Ketterling and Donald Werth, and his second wife, Betty (Mohl). In lieu of cards or flowers, the family would be honored by memorial donations made in Leo's name to either the Parkinson's Foundation or Alzheimer's Association.
