Leah Henke, 100, of Ashley, ND, passed away July 16, 2023 at the Ashley Medical Center, Ashley, ND. Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 24, 2023 at 10:30 AM at First Congregational Church, Kulm. Visitation will start at 9:00 AM on Monday at the church. Burial will be held at the Congregational Cemetery, Kulm.
Leah was born on November 3, 1922 to Mike and Christina (Bollinger) Wagner in Forbes, ND. She attended country school and worked as a hired girl before marrying Edwin Henke on November 12, 1943. They lived on a farm in Dickey County Northwest of Forbes, ND. They raised small grains, cattle, and dairy cows.
Leah was a good German cook, seamstress and helped with all the farm work. She was a member of the First Congregational Church in Kulm, ND. Edwin passed away on June 14, 1979. Leah lived in her home on the farm with her son DeLane and his family until June of 2001 when she moved into an apartment in Ashley, ND where she enjoyed town life. She entered the Ashley Nursing Home on February of 2022 at the age of 99.
Leah is survived by her daughter, Rosemary David, Hazelton, ND, daughter, Linda (Terry) Schlenker, Kulm, ND; son, DeLane (Valerie) Henke, Ashley, ND; sister-in-law, Bette Wagner, Forbes, ND; sister, Irene Pettlon, Cedar Rapids, IA; grandchildren, Ronald (Ayesha) David, Jeff David, Pam (Randy) Aberle, Nicki Schlenker Kungel, Dion (Teresa) Schlenker, Ann (August) Laeger and Mollie (Andy) Friedt; great-grandchildren, Aahil, Aydin and Anusha David, Jessica and Jonathan Aberle, Taylor (Adam) Runde, Mikayla Kungel, Maxwell, Mesa and Myla Laeger.
Leah was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Viola Long; brother, Jerald Wagner; and son-in-law, Ronald David.
The family would like to thank the Ashley Nursing Home for the fine care they provided to mom.
