LaVonne June Selleck was born June 23, 1934 to Freida and Alvin Selleck on the family farm near Battle Lake, MN. Following her high school graduation, she got her teaching certificate and taught at a country school near Kintyre. She only taught for a short time until a local farmer caught her attention. She married Larry Johnson on May 24, 1953 and they settled onto the family farm near Kintyre. There they raised their four children, Sue, Steve, Marc, and Mick. She enjoyed tending to her garden and doing a variety of needlework. She was an excellent quilter, seamstress, embroiderer, and cross-stitcher.
LaVonne was an active member of the Kintyre Trinity Lutheran Church. She was involved in the Ladies Aid, Sunday School and VBS. She was a member of the Napoleon school board and Tell Township board. After Larry passed away in 1997, LaVonne spent her time between Napoleon and the family farm. She enjoyed going to the Golden Age as well as having coffee with the neighbor ladies.
LaVonne especially enjoyed spending time with her kids and grandkids. Her greatest joy was having everyone around her dinner table for a homemade meal. She made sure that a trip to see grandma always consisted of warm homemade buns, a pan of Oh-Henry bars, and sugar cookies from the freezer.
LaVonne was preceded in death by her husband, Larry, great-granddaughter, Lauren, her parents, Freida and Alvin, her sisters, Verle and Delores, brother, Glenn, and numerous brothers and sisters in-law and nieces and nephews.
She will be remembered by her children, Sue Johnson (Kerry Moore), Round Rock, TX, Steve (Franny) Johnson, Bismarck, Marc (Joyce) Johnson, Wahpeton, ND, and Mick (Kristi) Johnson, Bismarck, ND, grandkids, Shawna, Stuart (Sadie), Sean, Allie (Travis), Nick (Sara), Andrew, and Brianna (Tyler), great-grandkids, Finley, Brooks, and Nora, sister, Darlene, sister in-law, Della, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family prefers that memorials are made to Kintyre Trinity Lutheran Church or a charity of your choice.
