The funeral for LaVern Giesler, 89, Kulm, ND will be Saturday, September 6, 2014 at 10:30 AM at the Kulm Congregational Church, Kulm, ND. Visitation will be Friday from 1:00 PM to7:00 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Kulm, ND. Burial will be at the Kulm Congregational Cemetery, Kulm, ND.

LaVern Klettke was born February 14, 1925 to Bernard and Matilda (Scherbinske) Klettke on a farm south of Kulm, ND. LaVern attended country schools in various locations as the family farmed near Kulm during her growing up years. LaVern attended Kulm High School, graduating the spring of 1943. Upon graduating LaVern married the love of her life, Oscar Giesler June 13, 1943. They farmed south of Kulm. During their farming years, LaVern managed a large, productive garden, helped with the dairy herd and was Oscar's helper in the fields. In addition she taught Sunday school, worked in the United Methodist women's group, was a participant of Whitestone Homemakers, sang in the church choir and loved to entertain friends and family. LaVern and Oscar enjoyed many years of traveling, spending time with friends and family and were always ready for a great game of Skippo. To the people who knew them best, it would be said Oscar and LaVern were an awesome example of marital bliss and had the opportunity to share that example for their 64 years of marriage. The basis of their happiness was their belief in Christ and His guidance throughout their lives. LaVern was known as an active prayer warrior by church and family.

LaVern died Monday, September 1, 2014 at the Prince of Peace Care Center at Ellendale, ND. She was 89 years old.

LaVern is survived by her son, James (Lynda) Giesler, Kulm, ND; her daughter, Shirley (Richard) Giles, Redwood Falls, MN; one son-in-law, Brunno Kinzler, Monango, ND; one brother, Lyle (Dorothy) Klettke, Portland, OR; one sister-in-law, Marge Klettke, Portland, OR; 8 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar, one daughter, Sharon Kinzler, her parents, and siblings, Molly, Lydia, Emma, Lea, Rahel, Esther, Roy, LeMar and Norman.
