The funeral for Kenegunda Unser, Napoleon, ND will be Friday, September 5, 2014 at 10:00 AM at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, Napoleon, ND. Visitation will be Thursday from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Napoleon, ND. Burial will be at St. Philip Neri Catholic Cemetery, Napoleon, ND.
Kenegunda Baumstarck, daughter of Adam and Juliana (Vetter) Baumstarck, one of fourteen children, was born on September 28, 1923 at the family farm in east Emmons County. Kenegunda attended rural school and later went to school at St. Leo's in Minot, ND. She continued her education at Ellendale College where she received her Teaching Degree. Kenegunda taught many rural schools and substituted teaching at Napoleon and St. Philip. She loved teaching. On June 10, 1946, Kenegunda married Leo Unser at St. Joseph's Church in rural Emmons County. They lived in the city of Strasburg ND, then moved to Leo's family farm west of Strasburg for 2 years. Later they bought a farm at Steele, ND where they lived for 3 years. In 1950 Kenegunda and Leo bought their farm northeast of Napoleon, where they lived until they moved into Napoleon, where Leo continues to live. Kenegunda was currently living at the Napoleon Care Center. Kenegunda and Leo wintered in Arizona many years, which they enjoyed so much. Kenegunda loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren with all her heart. She enjoyed all her students, loved to play pinochle, enjoyed cooking, baking and visiting. Kenegunda had one of her own recipes win a prize and was published in Better Homes and Garden magazine. Kenegunda was a member of St. Philip Neri Catholic Church and was devoted to the rosary which she prayed daily. She was also a member of the Christian Mothers and the American Legion Auxillary.
Kenegunda died Sunday, August 31, 2014 at the Napoleon Care Center, Napoleon ND. She was 90 years old.
Kenegunda will be missed by her loving and devoted husband, Leo, Napoleon, ND; daughters, Rita (Tony) Wangler, Napoleon, ND; Claudia (George) Montanez, Redlands, CA; Julie Wilke, Surprise, AZ; sons, Ted (Vianna D) Unser, Bismarck, ND; Gerard (Charlotte) Unser, Mesa, AZ; 14 grandchildren, Angie (Rod) Glass, Derek (Jenny) Wangler, Josh (Katie) Wangler, Jackie Abel, Christie (Jason) Nelson, Nicole Unser, Ted Lee (Jamie) Unser, Colleen (Chris) Turski, Justin Wilke, Amelia Casarez, Josie, Drew, Nick Unser, Alexandria (Jake) Napier and 20 great-grandchildren; a brother Adam (Cecelia) Baumstarck, Linton, ND; a sister, Juliana Malsom, Ipswich, SD; a sister-in-law, Beverly Baumstarck, Bismarck, ND and brother-in-law, Alfred Steiger, Lisbon, ND and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Joseph, John, Conrad, Leo and Valentine, sisters, Anna Mary Miller, Frances Baer, Albina Leingang, Margaret Steiger and Clementine Baumstarck, brothers-in-law, Valentine Malsom, Louis Baer, Chris Leingang and Philip Miller.
