Katherina Martha (Kleingartner) Haag, 91, of Fredonia, ND died peacefully at the Wishek Living Center, Wishek, ND on Saturday, February 15, 2020. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2020 at 10:30 AM at Martin Luther Lutheran Church, Fredonia, ND. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 21, 2020 from 5-7 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Kulm, ND.

Katherina ("Katie") was a twin daughter born to Edward and Pauline (Dittus) Kleingartner on May 7, 1928 near Fredonia, North Dakota. She was raised on the family farm 6 miles northwest of Fredonia and received her education at Haag #4 rural school. Katie was united in marriage to Raymond Haag on October 21, 1947, in Fredonia, North Dakota. They farmed 2 miles northwest of Fredonia and together they had five children.

Katie and Raymond farmed up until the early 1980s. Throughout their life on the farm they raised livestock and small grains, milked cows and Katie raised chickens and ducks and did a great deal of canning. Katie and Raymond celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1997 surrounded by numerous family and friends. They moved from their farm to Kulm, North Dakota in October, 2002. Raymond passed away on December 16, 2003. Katie enjoyed living in Kulm where she was close to her friends and able to enjoy many activities and social events. Katie loved nothing more than being surrounded by family. She loved and was very proud of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her daughter Polly lived with and cared for Katie for 9 years and her four sons were there for her whenever she needed anything. Katie moved to the Wishek Living Center in February 2019.

Katie was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Martin Luther Lutheran Church American Lutheran Church Women (ALCW) where Katie and Raymond were active members. She enjoyed playing cards, attending social and community events, keeping in touch with generations of extended family and was always eager to lend a hand. She was an excellent cook and her popcorn balls and cream puffs were family favorites. Katie and her identical twin, Marion Rossman, affectionately known as the "Fredonia Twins" were lifelong companions. On the old rural "party line" phone system, one would often pick up the phone to call the other only to find that both were already on the line and there was no need to dial…and of course, they never listened in on the calls of the neighbors. They raised their families together, they painted homes together, went nearly everywhere together, and were always there for each other.

Katie was preceded in death by her husband Raymond Haag; her parents Edward and Pauline Kleingartner; two sisters Gertrude (Gertie) Mueller and Marion Rossman; three brothers, Theo (David), William and Walter Kleingartner.

Katie is survived by one daughter, Pauline "Polly" Haag, and four sons: Glynn Haag (Diane), Alvin Haag (Theresa), Todd Haag (Debbie) and Tim Haag (Lisa); her nine grandchildren Kelley and James, Jody, Becky and Courtney, Mitchell and Ryan and Alex and Brady; eight great-grandchildren Johnathon, Bryce and Drew, Skieler, Connor and Crosby and Nadia and Scarlett; and one sister, Evangeline ("Van") Sprazoff.
