The funeral for Julius A. Wiest, Wishek, ND will be Saturday, July 21, 2012 at 10:30 AM at St. Luke Lutheran Church, Wishek, ND. Visitation will be Friday from 11:00 AM to 7:30 PM with a prayer service at 7:30 PM at Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Wishek, ND. Burial will be held at St. Luke Lutheran Cemetery, Wishek, ND.
Julius was born in McIntosh County on January 31, 1925 to Jacob and Eva (Wolff) Wiest. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Andrew's Church in rural Zeeland, ND. Julius attended a country school through eighth grade. Upon completion of school, Julius worked on the family farm. In July of 1957 Julius met his future wife Alice Meidinger. Julius and Alice were married April 15, 1958. In November of 1958, Julius and Alice bought their family farm 1.5 miles west of Wishek were they began their dairy operation and small grains. They also raised their four wonderful children, Clyde, Karen, Cordell and Mark on the farm. In 1990 Julius and Alice retired from dairy farming. Julius continued to farm with his son Clyde in a cow/calf operation until the time of his death. In September of 1999 they sold the family farm and moved to Wishek where he lived until the time of his death. During Julius's life he was involved with many things in addition to farming. Julius was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church and later was a custodian for the church. Julius also served on the airport board, cemetery board, and was a member of the Wishek Eagles Club. Julius was also a member of the St. Andrew's German Choir for many years. Julius also worked for area farmers, Mehlhaff Construction, and at the city landfill. Julius's favorite things to do were to attend dances, read, and visit his friends. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, playing games, giving them rides on his four wheeler and sharing stories with them. He looked forward to each and every precious minute he spent with them.
Julius died Tuesday, July 17, 2012 at the Wishek Nursing Home. He was 87 years old.
Julius leaves his wife of over 54 years, Alice; his four children, Clyde (Gina) Wiest, Wishek, ND; Karen (Jim) Smith, Jamestown, ND; Cordell (Dorinda) Wiest, Bismarck, ND and Mark (Kresha) Wiest, Jamestown, ND; 11 grandchildren, Josh (Stacy) Wiest, Wishek, ND; Lacey Wiest, Bismarck, ND; Timothy, Anthony and Allison Smith, Jamestown, ND; Austin, McKenzie, and Dawson Wiest, Bismarck, ND and Trey, Jaxton, and Jayden Wiest, Jamestown, ND; 3 great-grandchildren Kya and Camden Wiest, Wishek, ND and Ben Eiseman, Bismarck, ND; two sisters Hertha Wiest, Wishek, ND and Werna (Allen) Deile, Wishek, ND; one brother Herbert (Arlia) Wiest, Zeeland, ND. Julius was preceded in death by his parents, his step mother, Caroline, 2 brothers Ervin and Herman and an infant sister.
Julius had a kind and generous heart. He enjoyed making people laugh and telling stories. He will be deeply missed by his family and his many special friends.
