The funeral for Joseph Holzer, Wishek, ND will be held Saturday, March 26, 2011 at 10:30 AM at St. Phillip Neri Catholic Church in Napoleon, ND. Visitation will be held Friday from 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at Dahlstrom Funeral Home in Wishek, ND. Burial will be at St. Philip Neri Catholic Cemetery, Napoleon, ND.

Joseph Holzer son of Rochus and Barbara (Schneider) Holzer was born February 19, 1913 at Strasburg, ND where he grew up and attended school. Joe worked for CC Corps in 1934, WPA APX from 1936-1937 and Logan County for 17 years hauling gravel. Joe married Katherine Gefre on February 5, 1935 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church at Hague, ND. Joe and Katherine moved to a farm 17 miles northeast of Wishek, ND on October 6, 1948, where they had a mixed farming operation including cattle, horses and grain. They were members of St. Claire Catholic Church at Burnstad, ND and after it closed they became members of St. Philip Neri Catholic Church of Napoleon, ND. Joe helped build the St. Claire Catholic Church at Burnstad. Joe was a quiet man, enjoyed reading the paper and did his own mechanic work. In 2004 they moved to Bismarck and in May of 2008 Katherine entered the Wishek Home for the Aged, at Wishek. Joe entered the home November of 2010.

Joe died Tuesday, March 22, 2011 at the Wishek Home for the Aged, Wishek, ND. He was 98 years old.

Joe is survived by his wife Katherine of 76 years, Wishek, ND; children: Eugene (Kitty) Holzer, Wishek, ND; Aloys (Muriel) Holzer, Mandan, ND; Betty (Raymond) Hilzendeger, Napoleon, ND; Rose (Pete) Feist, Bismarck, ND; Roy (Janet) Holzer, Bismarck, ND; Donald Holzer, Menominee, WI; Darlene (Wendelin) Piatz, Bismarck, ND; Patrick (Della) Holzer, Bismarck, ND; Lawrence (Wanda) Holzer, Blair, NE; Edward (Sandy) Holzer, Bismarck, ND; Kathleen (Doug) Buck, Bismarck, ND; John (Myrt) Holzer, Bismarck, ND; Maggie (Tim) Schrader, Bismarck, ND; Helen Crowe, Bismarck, ND; Barbara (Scott) Keller, Mandan, ND; 33 grandchildren; 56 great-grandchildren; 3 great great-grandchildren; 7 step-grandchildren; one brother, John Holzer, Strasburg, ND; two sisters, Eva Eberspecher, Spokane, WA; Aggie (Clarence) Bishop, Spokane, WA. He was preceded in death by two sons, Joseph and August, one daughter, Angeline, one granddaughter, two grandsons, parents and several brothers and sisters.
