He graduated from Napoleon High School in 1980 and after worked side by side with his father at Ray's Shopping Center until 1995.
Joey was united in marriage to Missy Sperle on May 23, 1987, at St. Phillip Neri Catholic Church in Napoleon, North Dakota, where they made their home. In the spring of 1995, Joey and Missy purchased the White Maid and ran the restaurant until 2008. After selling the White Maid, Joey began working at the Napoleon Care Center where he worked until his death.
Joey was given a life full of love. The greatest love he had in life was his family. He enjoyed spending time with all his children and especially his one grandchild. He was also considered the animal whisperer because any animal that he ever greeted became immediately attached to him. With any free time Joey had, he loved being outdoors bow hunting, golfing in the local tournaments, computer, and playing a great game of pinochle. Joey prided himself on his faith and love of God.
