Joseph P. Fettig was born October 18, 1930 on a farm in Emmons County, ND to Philip and Katherine (Aberle) Fettig. He attended country school in the area until the 8 th grade. He then went to work with his father on the family farm and for neighboring farms in the area, where help was needed. Joe met the love of his life Magdalena Weigel and they were united in marriage on September 3, 1951at St. Boniface Catholic Church. They settle on their farm 15 miles northeast of Napoleon where they raised their 12 children. Joe was a very accident prone person, one accident in particular was in 1981 when he was run over by a tractor. But no matter how many accidents he had, it never stopped him from doing what he loved most of all and that was farming. In 1995 Joe and Maggie retired and moved to Napoleon. During retirement Joe and Maggie enjoyed traveling the country. He also helped the Logan County Soil Conservation with spring crop seeding. Joe was a guy full of many trades and could do almost anything when asked.

Joe enjoyed spending time with family and friends, playing pinochle, fishing, bowling and going for his morning coffee.

He was a member of the Napoleon Knights of Columbus, where he served as a Grand Knight, past board member of the St. Philip Neri Church Council, Peace Township Board, Cenex Board and the Farmers Union Board in Logan and Kidder County.

Joe is survived by his wife of 69 years, Magdalena Fettig, Napoleon, children, Diane (Ron) Schmidt, Edgeley, Helen Fettig, Bismarck, Gary (Jolene) Fettig, Bismarck, Linda (Leroy) Miller, Bismarck, James (Anita) Fettig, Napoleon, John (Teresa) Fettig, Bismarck, Kathy (Alan) Chmielewski, Bismarck, Karen (Marvin) Doll, Elgin, Robert Fettig, Bismarck, Carla (Andy) Gross, Napoleon, Milissa (Sam) Gross, Linton and Joey (Jolene) Fettig, Tappen; 48 grandchildren and 49 great-grandchildren; brothers, Anton (Pauline) Fettig, Steele and Frank (Sue) Fettig, Seattle, WA; sisters, Helen Schulz, Wishek and Clara (Cliff) Funston, Bismarck.
