Joseph A. Fettig, 91, passed with peace and grace on September 29, 2016 with family at his side.
He was born on February 17, 1925 in Logan County, ND where he spent his entire life. After graduating from Napoleon High School and Ellendale Teacher's College, he began his career, teaching country school for three years. He later worked at Coast to Coast and Nickisch Funeral Home in Napoleon followed by 20 years owning and operating Joe's Place on Main Street. Dad enriched his own life and the lives of others, through his tireless energy and commitment to family, church and community. To his family and all who knew him he was a loving, loyal and kind gentleman. He was a member of St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and served as sexton of the St. Philip Neri Catholic Cemetery. He also volunteered in many other community and civic organizations, including Napoleon Volunteer Fire Department, Lions Club, Farm Bureau, Napoleon Business Association, Logan County Historical Museum and Boy Scouts of America. What a lovely coincidence that on the very day of his passing, he joined the love of his life, Veronica Wangler, to celebrate what would be their 67 wedding anniversary, after four years without her at his side.
Joseph is survived by his children; Gerald Joseph Fettig, Sharon (Daniel) Shemon, Alaqua Cummings, Kevin (Colleen) Fettig, Lynn (Kathy) Fettig, and Norma (Sean) Key; grandchildren; Nicky (Todd) Fettig-Bailey, Aaron (Emily) Shemon, Zachary Joseph (Mary) Shemon, Braelynn (Greg) Yerington, Bradley Fettig, Morgan Cummings, Courtney Santos, Annie Fettig, Lynsey (Jayden) Anderson, Chelsie (Cornelio) Flores, Aric (Ashley) Fettig, Cameron Joseph (Markelle) Dockter, Matthew (Katie Huizenga) Dockter and Kathryn Dockter; great-grandchildren; Alexander, Michael, Kendall, Evan, Taylor, Brooklyn, Arianna, Kai Joseph, Quinton, Elliot Veronica, Hudson, Shelbie and Cameron Joseph Jr.
