Obituary

John Silbernagel, 96, of Napoleon, ND, died on July 9th, 2023 at the Napoleon Care Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, July 13, 2023 at 10:30 AM at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, Napoleon. Visitation will start at 9:00 AM on Thursday at the church. Burial will be held at St. Anthony Cemetery, rural Napoleon.

John was born May 27, 1927 on the family farm southwest of Napoleon to Anton and Anne (Horner) Silbernagel. He attended country school at Manheim #3 until the eighth grade. He then went on to help his dad on the farm until being drafted into the US Army in March of 1946 and honorably discharged in August of 1946. He returned home to the farm, where he worked along side his dad until taking over the farm in 1962 when his parents retired and moved into Napoleon. John continued to farm and ranch up until a few months before he passed away.

John enjoyed playing cards and going out to eat at all the neighboring small towns in the area. He loved living on the farm and especially loved raising cattle.

He was a member of St. Philip Neri Catholic Church and the Napoleon American Legion.

John is survived by his brothers and sisters, Ida Doll, Dawson, ND, Luella Kent, Georgia, Clemens (Theresia) Silbernagel, Napoleon, ND and Don Silbernagel, Kathryn, ND; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Vincent, Joseph, George, Anton and Gabriel; sisters, Anna Mary and Theresa; sister-in-law, Joni Silbernagel; brothers-in-law, George Doll and Endel Kent.
