Obituary

The funeral for John W. Jones, Jr., Wishek, ND will be held Monday, November 7, 2016 at 1:00 pm at St. Luke Lutheran Church, Wishek, ND. Visitation will be Sunday from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm with a prayer service at 7:00 pm at Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Wishek, ND. Burial will be at St. Luke Lutheran Cemetery, Wishek, ND.
John W. Jones, Jr. son of John Wallace and Alma (Farstad) Jones was born August 23, 1942 in Los Angeles, California. As a young child he moved with his family to the family farm near Webster, ND. He graduated from Devils Lake High School, and then went on to attend college at Bottineau, ND. He was employed at Sullys Hill National Game Preserve, near Devils Lake, ND. On December 29, 1964 John married Maxine Titus. They moved to Missouri and he was employed with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. In 1974, he was transferred to Kulm, ND, where he became a Federal Game Warden. He was employed with the Fish and Wildlife Service for 37 years before he retired in 2000. On August 17, 2002 John married Colleen Schuchard Thurn, they lived in Mandan, ND and he was employed with the Bismarck Municipal Airport as a Security Officer for 14 years. Later, they moved to Wishek, ND where he was employed at Beaver Lake State Park. John was a dedicated Hunter Safety Instructor for 35 years and also an ATV Instructor for 12 years. John belonged to and was involved in many community organizations. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing and hunting, and also visiting with the landowners. John loved to visit and joke around with family and friends.
John died Thursday, November 3, 2016 at Sanford Medical Center, Bismarck, ND. He was 74 years old.
John is survived by his wife; Colleen, Wishek, ND; two sons, John W. (Gina) Jones, III, Jamestown, ND; Cameron (Veronica) Jones, Norman, OK; one daughter, Tanya Jones (Scott Hoyte), Edmond, OK; one step-son, Scott (Sara) Thurn, Jamestown, ND; one step-daughter, Rebecca Thurn (Jason) Bosnos, Las Vegas, NV; thirteen grandchildren, one great-grandchild; one brother, David (Connie) Jones, Webster, ND; three sisters, Connie (Mark) Weed, Fargo, ND; Gayle (Bill) Wakefield, Devils Lake, ND; Nancy (Mark) Wendel, Cave Creek, AZ, and one sister-in-law, Nancy Jones, Hastings, MI. John was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Owen Jones, and two grandchildren, Casey Jones and Sara Jones.
