Obituary

The funeral for John August Hehr, Kulm, ND will be Sunday, July 1, 2018 at 1:00 PM at Kulm High School, Kulm, ND. Visitation will be Saturday from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Kulm, ND. Burial will be at the Hillside Lutheran Cemetery, Kulm, ND.

John August Hehr was born December 13, 1954 in the Community Health Center at Kulm, ND to Albert and Irene (Hehr) Hehr. He was the only baby born there. He was baptized on May 29, 1955. John was confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church on May 31, 1970. He was raised in Kulm, ND and attended Kulm School for 12 years. John married Linda Rost on June 20, 1975 at United Methodist Church in Kulm. John was employed at Stroehl's Junk Yard. He then worked for Carlson-Sjostrom Imp. in Kulm. Later he drove truck for Gohner Trucking in Jud, ND until taking the job as manager at the Kulm Civic Improvement for 4 years. After managing the bar, he bought his own trucking business and went on the road for 2 years. In 1987 he and his wife Linda purchased and opened People's Meat Market for 25 years in Kulm. John and Linda are currently managing the Home Plate Cafe in Fredonia, ND. He also was running a chuckwagon service for auctions and doing lawn mowing service. John served on several boards including Kulm Fire Department as Fire Chief, Kulm City Council, president of the Kulm Civic Improvement Association, church trustee and cemetery sexton of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Kulm. He is currently a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Mandan, ND. In his free time, he loved, driving around the countryside, fishing, hunting, playing pool and spending time with his two grandsons, nephews and niece.

John died Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at Seldovia, Alaska. He was 63 years old.

John is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Linda, Kulm, ND; one son, Jesse (Erin) Hehr, Mandan, ND; two grandchildren, Brandon and Grant Hehr, Mandan, ND; one brother, James (Charlotte Schlenz) Hehr, West Fargo, ND; two sisters, Sharyn Marier, Casselton, ND and Anita (Kelly) Kittelson, Fargo, ND; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Norma and Norman Rost, Kulm, ND; brother-in-law, Tom (Dawn) Rost Devils Lake, ND. In addition, he will be missed by nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Irene, paternal and maternal grandparents, nephew, David Marier.  In lieu of flowers memorials can be given to the Cystic Fibrosis Association of North Dakota, 921 S. 9 th St. #115 Bismarck, ND  58504.
