The memorial service for John Martin Hagen, Kulm, ND, formerly of Wilton, ND, will be held Friday, March 23, 2018 at 7:00 pm at Zion Lutheran Church, Kulm, ND. A second memorial service will be held Saturday, March 24, 2018 at 2:00 pm at Sunne Lutheran Church, rural Wilton, ND.
John Martin Hagen, son of Harold and Dorothy (Hughes) Hagen was born May 14, 1929 in Fargo, ND. He there until the age of ten when he moved with his family to a farm southwest of Wilton, ND. He graduated from Wilton High School in 1947. Following high school, he continued to work on the family farm. John served in the United States Army from 1955-1957 and was stationed in Japan. He told numerous stories of his experiences in the service and Japan, a highlight being his climb of Mount Fuji.  John was a proud American that returned to his home in ND to take over the family farm.  His life was changed a few years later when he went on a blind date and found his wife of 56 years.  John married Leone Mavis Thompson on June 3, 1961, in Bismarck, ND.    They had three children, Harold, Julie, and Jennifer. In addition to raising their family, John and Leone continued to farm, raising cattle and small grains, until retiring in 1994. John and Leone moved from their farm to Barnesville, MN in 2010, and to Kulm, ND in 2015, in order to be closer to their son, Harold, and his family.
