John G Becker died April 5, 2022, age 92, at St Vincent's Care Center in Bismarck, ND. He was surrounded by family and raised up in prayer at the time of his illness and death. John was a pillar of his family and never compromised his values. He practiced and lived his faith everyday.
John was born on October 15, 1929 in Bismarck, ND to George and Barbara Becker. John grew up on a farm in Napoleon. When John was 21, he was drafted into the Army during the Korean Conflict and was station in Anchorage, AK. He served 2 years. He married Delores Kuhn on January 4, 1954. John and Delores farmed south of Napoleon for 36 years and moved into Napoleon in 1990. John farmed part-time for several years until he settled into retirement.
John loved to fish, play cards and spend time with family and friends. He enjoyed driving out to the farm to check-up on the progress of the crops, going to the Napoleon Livestock Action and chatting with other retired farmers at the DFC coffee shop. John and Delores square danced for many years and traveled to many places in retirement. They enjoyed listening to polka party on Sunday afternoons and spending the afternoon with the 'Sunday Soupers'. John LOVED to drive and he enjoyed Sunday drives (really on any day) down country roads. For many years John and Delores served meals on wheels. John was involved in American Legion, served on the cemetery board, was involved in the Logan County Museum, Golden Age past president and board member and was a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus. He was a trustee for St Anthony parish for many years.
John is survived by his wife of 68 years, Delores, Napoleon; their eight children; Diane (Bruce) Weber, Bismarck, Darlene (Gary) Haskin, Fargo, Doreen (Gene) Ottemoeller, Bismarck, Donna (Bruce) Ellison, Bismarck, Dora Burns, Vadnais Heights, MN, Dan (Bernice) Becker, Spencer, WI, Darcy (Darla) Becker, New Salem and Darrell (Stephanie) Becker, Napoleon. They have been blessed with 31 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Johanna Glatt and Mary Beth (Gary) Perala, in-laws Anne Nolz, Viola Becker, Helen and Pius Ternes, Ida Kuhn, Irene Kuhn, Barbara and Andy Hilzendeger, Betty and Richard Kuntz, and Mary and Jerry Rattei in addition to numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Paul and Wendelin, in-laws Joe Glatt, Martin Nolz, John and Leona Kuhn, Joe Kuhn, and Leo Kuhn, son-in-laws Darcy Rau and John Burns Jr and daughter-in-law Karen Becker, and 2 grandchildren, Brian Ottemoeller and Simon Peter Becker.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, April 11, 2022 at 10:30 AM at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, Napoleon. Visitation will be held Sunday, April 10, 2022 from 5-7 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church. Burial will be at St Phillip Neri Catholic Cemetery following Mass. Lunch to follow burial at the Napoleon American Legion.
