The funeral for Johanna Fey, Kulm, ND will be Thursday, April 18, 2013 at 10:30 AM at the Kulm Congregational Church, Kulm, ND. Visitation will be Wednesday from 1:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Kulm, ND. Burial will be at the Congregational Cemetery, Kulm, ND.

Johanna, daughter of Jacob and Christina (Schramm) Schlauch, Germans from Russia, was born December 10, 1910 in LaMoure County near Jud, ND. She was their second child, but the first to be born in the United States of America. She grew up in a large family of 16 brothers and sisters. She received her education in the rural schools of Jud and Kulm. Johanna was married to Theodore Fey on July 24, 1932. After their marriage they farmed in the Fredonia and Kulm area until 1969 when they moved into the city of Kulm. She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Kulm. When they moved into town she joined the Dorcas Society, sang in the mixed choir, ladies chorus and ladies quartet. Johanna also belonged to the Senior Citizen Friendship Chorus and enjoyed helping whenever possible. She liked playing Hand and Foot with her friends and neighbors. Jo liked to garden and enjoyed tending the flowers around her house. She commented, "when you talk to them they grow better." After Ted's passing she continued to live in the house they purchased in Kulm, until moving to the Kulm Apartments in April of 2007 and then to the Ashley Nursing Home in November of 2009.


Johanna passed away Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at the Ashley Nursing Home, Ashley, ND. She was 102 years and 4 months of age.

Johanna is survived by her three children, Donovan (Mary Louise) Fey, Kulm, ND; Ivy Fey,Winton, CA and Eileen (Roger) Feiken, LaMoure, ND; four grandchildren, Randy (Vicki) Fey, Red Lodge, MT; Renae Fey, Jamestown, ND; Evonne (Steven) Geigle, Devils Lake, ND and Dennis (Tammy) Feiken, LaMoure, ND; three great-grandchildren, Reanna Fey, Red Lodge, MT; Kade Geigle, Devils Lake, ND and Brady Feiken, LaMoure, ND; three sisters, Hulda Gruneich, Aberdeen, SD; Esther Hildebrand, Ashley, ND and Ella Davis, Sacramento, CA; many nieces and nephews.
