The funeral for Janel Gaugler, Wishek, ND will be held on Monday, June 26, 2017, at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Wishek, ND at 10:30 AM. Visitation will be held Sunday, June 25, 2017 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at St. Luke Lutheran Church, Wishek, ND. Interment will be held at Hillside Cemetery in Fessenden, North Dakota at 3:00 PM.

Janel the daughter of Kenneth and Joyce (Kro) Rudel was born May 17, 1955 at Harvey, North Dakota, She grew up on the family farm and attended Fessenden High School, where she was active in track and graduated from in 1973. Janel went on to attend Mayville State University. There she was very successful in basketball, softball, and volleyball. She received her degree in education. Following college Janel moved to Wishek, North Dakota to begin her teaching career which spanned 32 years. There she married Dave Gaugler where they raised their two children, Phillip and Linsey. Janel started the girls volleyball program at Wishek and coached girls volleyball for 17 years. She was inducted into the Mayville State Athletic Hall of Fame in 2009. Janel impacted the lives of many students along her journey. After her retirement from teaching, Janel remained active in the community. She started driving the local transit bus and found a new role. Janel enjoyed driving the bus and adding a little bit of humor and happiness to the lives of others. She remained a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church. Janel always possessed a wicked sense of humor and a quick wit. She loved anything sports related, playing cards, and being active in all aspects of her family's lives.

Janel Gaugler, mother, grandmother, sister, daughter, wife, friend, lover of all things sports related, teacher, coach and advocate, lived till the age of 62. She died June 22, 2017, at the Wishek Community Hospital, Wishek, ND.

Janel is survived by her two children; Phillip Gaugler of Larimore, ND and Linsey (Adam) Naastad of Northwood, ND, three grandchildren whom she adored with all her heart; Abram, Layla, and Isabelle Naastad; her mother, Joyce Rudel of Wishek, North Dakota; sister, Kay (Greg) Weber of Wishek, ND and three brothers, Paul (Nellie) Rudel of Fessenden, ND, Kurt (Jeanne) Rudel of Fessenden, ND, and Jim (Jeannine) Glennon of Canby, OR. She is preceded in death by her father and her brother, Patrick Glennon. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to; Wishek Community Hospital and Clinic Association, Wishek Park, or Wishek Public School.
