A memorial service for James O. Burk, Kulm, ND will be held Saturday, April 21, 10:30 AM at Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Kulm, ND with interment at St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, Kulm, ND.

James O. Burk son of Erick and Martha (Roedel) Burk was born April 22, 1929 at Kulm, ND. A Kulm native, Jim joined the U.S. Air Force in 1947 and served 22 years on active duty that included a tour in Vietnam in 1967-68. He retired as a Chief Master Sergeant working for Strategic Air Command at Scribner Air Base, Nebraska. He retired again in 1985 after serving nearly 14 years as a dispatcher for the Fremont Nebraska Police Department. Jim lived in Great Falls, Montana and Safford, Arizona before returning to Kulm in 1999, where he joined and was very active with the American Legion. He was a passionate hunter all of his life and a gun enthusiast and expert; many sought his knowledge. He will be long remembered for the hunts he led and the stories he told about them.

James passed away peacefully January 22, 2012 at the North Dakota Veterans Home at Lisbon, ND. He was 82 years old.

He is survived by daughter Eleanor (Peder) Kittelson of University Place, Washington; son John (Nanci) Burk of Glendale, Arizona; and sister Vera Burk of Portland, Oregon. Jim is preceded in death by his wife Mildred E. Burk, parents Erick and Martha Burk, and sister Shirley Bott.
