Ione was born on February 14, 1927 in Venturia, ND, the daughter of Albert & Margaret (Hochhalter) Wiest. She grew up on the family farm and received her education at a rural schoolhouse. At the age of 20, Ione married Christian Bettenhausen on April 6, 1947. The couple lived and farmed on the family farm where they raised their 6 children. In 1979 Christ and Ione retired and purchased a house in Wishek. In April of 1997, Christ and Ione celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Christ died on March 20, 1998. Ione continued to live in their home in Wishek. She loved caring for her flowers and her garden and she especially loved riding around on her lawn tractor cutting her lawn. In May of 2013 Ione moved into the Assisted Living Apartments. She loved the assisted living community and very seldom would you find her at home as she spent much time visiting friends, playing cards, or bowling. Ione also loved spending time with family and she cherished the weekly and daily calls from her children and grandchildren, and she had a special place in her heart for each and every one of them. Ione was a member of the United Church of Christ where she belonged to the Martha Ladies Aide. She worked for a time at the Wishek Livestock Café and the Senior Citizens Center. She served for many years on the Wishek Hospital Auxiliary and the Goodwill Ambassadors at the Wishek Living Center.
Ione died Sunday, February 12, 2017 at the Wishek Living Center Wishek, ND. She was 89 years old.
