Obituary

The funeral For Hilmer C. Rath, Wishek, ND will be Friday, February 4, 2011 at 11:00 AM at St. Luke Lutheran Church, Wishek, ND. Visitation will be Thursday from 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Wishek, ND. Burial will be at St. Luke Lutheran Cemetery, Wishek, ND.


Hilmer Rath, son of John J. and Martha (Lang) Rath was born July 15, 1920 in the Wishek area. He attended country school and then farmed for a short time in the Wishek area. On May 28th 1951 he married LaVerna Dockter and they made their home in Wishek. Sometime after 1960 they moved to Seneca, SD, where Hilmer worked for a farmer. In 1966 they moved back to Wishek. Hilmer worked at various places until he began working for Jim Weber Ford in 1979. He retired in 1990, but still enjoyed traveling with Jim on trips to pick up and deliver vehicles until around 2008. Hilmer was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church and the Wishek Wildlife. Hilmer enjoyed fishing; tinkering with anything he could get his hands on, helping pack silage at his daughter and son-in-law's farm and spending time with family and friends.

Hilmer died on Monday, February 1, 2011 at the Wishek Hospital. He was 90 years old.

Hilmer is survived by his three daughters; Lynn (Kenny) Mathewson, New York Mills, MN, Vicki (Francis) Meier, Zeeland, ND and Joyce (Tom) Scherr, Zeeland, ND, 10 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, LaVerna, his parents, 1 brother Edwin Rath, 1 sister Luella Lang, two infant siblings and 2 grandsons.
